Year 4 Science | Sound | Lesson 2: How do we Change Pitch?
How can we make sounds higher or lower? In this exciting Year 4 science lesson from our year 4 Sound unit, pupils explore how pitch is changed by vibrations. Building on previous learning, children investigate how different materials and object sizes affect the pitch of a sound.
Part of our Scintillating Science programme, this lesson encourages practical enquiry, vocabulary development and critical thinking. Pupils are introduced to key concepts in a clear, age-appropriate way, with opportunities to discuss, observe and reflect on their findings.
This lesson supports the aims of the Ofsted science subject report by helping pupils make meaningful links between scientific ideas and the world around them.
Included in this lesson:
- ✔️ Clear and engaging teaching slides
- ✔️ A full lesson plan with vocabulary and key questioning
- ✔️ Differentiated pupil tasks to suit a range of learners
- ✔️ Practical investigations
An engaging way to explore pitch in real-life contexts, while laying solid foundations for future sound-related learning.
