Year 3 Science | Forces and Magnets | Lesson 3: Is It Magnetic?
Scintillating Science is a complete primary science scheme of work, designed to build scientific knowledge and enquiry skills through practical, engaging lessons. Following the latest guidance from the Ofsted science subject report, each unit is carefully sequenced to support progression across the science curriculum.
Science Scheme | Year 3 | Block 2: Forces and Magnets | Lesson 3: Is It Magnetic? focuses on exploring and identifying magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Pupils will test a variety of everyday objects to discover which materials are attracted to magnets and begin to recognise patterns in the results.
This lesson is part of our Year 3 Forces and Magnets unit and provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on investigation and vocabulary development.
Each lesson includes:
- 🧪 Interactive teaching slides with modelling and teacher notes
- 🧪 Detailed lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions, cross-curricular links, and assessment ideas
- 🧪 Continuous provision suggestions for further exploration
- 🧪 Differentiated worksheets and tasks for a range of ability levels
This lesson supports the development of working scientifically by encouraging pupils to ask questions, make predictions, and record their findings in a clear and structured way.
