Year 3 Science | Forces and Magnets | Lesson 2: What Are Non-Contact Forces?
Scintillating Science is a complete primary science scheme of work, created to support the development of both substantive and disciplinary knowledge in line with the Ofsted science subject report. Each unit is carefully sequenced to build confidence, curiosity, and progression across the primary years.
Science Scheme | Year 3 | Block 2: Forces and Magnets | Lesson 2: What Are Non-Contact Forces? introduces the concept of forces that act at a distance, focusing particularly on magnetism as a non-contact force. Pupils explore how magnets can attract or repel without needing to touch, through guided demonstrations and practical investigations.
This lesson is part of our Year 3 Forces and Magnets unit, which supports key scientific enquiry skills alongside curriculum knowledge.
Each lesson includes:
- 🧪 Interactive teaching slides with teacher notes and visual explanations
- 🧪 Comprehensive lesson plans with key vocabulary, prior knowledge, misconceptions, and assessment opportunities
- 🧪 Continuous provision guidance for extending learning through play and exploration
- 🧪 Differentiated worksheets and practical tasks for all abilities
This lesson encourages children to observe and describe the effect of magnetic forces, make predictions, and develop a clear understanding of how non-contact forces work in everyday life.
