Year 4 Time Resources – Summer Block 3

Year 4 time resources, Summer Block 3, White Rose time worksheets

Understanding time is a key skill that pupils use in daily life. Our Summer Block 3 resources help Year 4 pupils develop fluency in reading, writing, and converting time across formats. Aligned with the White Rose Maths small steps, this block focuses on building confidence through real-life problem-solving.

Across two weeks, pupils will learn to:

  • Understand and convert between years, months, weeks and days
  • Compare durations using hours, minutes and seconds
  • Convert between hours, minutes and seconds
  • Read and write time in analogue and digital formats (12-hour and 24-hour)
  • Convert between 12-hour and 24-hour clocks

In the first week, pupils focus on understanding time as a sequence. They explore how days, weeks, months and years relate to each other and practise converting between them. Through real-life contexts like timetables and birthday calendars, pupils develop a deeper understanding of time intervals.

The second week moves into telling the time and comparing durations. Pupils work with both analogue and digital clocks, converting between formats and building fluency with 12- and 24-hour times. These activities help them apply their learning in practical contexts such as reading bus schedules and planning routines.

By the end of the block, pupils will:

  • Confidently read, write and convert time in different units
  • Apply knowledge of time to solve real-world problems
  • Use both 12-hour and 24-hour clocks accurately
